The New York Palace (Hungarian: New York-palota) is a luxury hotel on the Grand Boulevard of Budapest’s Erzsébet körút part, under Erzsébet körút 9-11, in the 7th district of Budapest, Hungary. Built by an insurance company as a company hall, its Café in the ground floor named New York Café (Hungarian: New York kávéház) was a longtime center for Hungarian literature and poetry, almost from its opening on October 23, 1894 to its closure in 2001, to reconstruct it into a luxury hotel, as it is now. The café was also reopened in May 5, 2006 in its original pomp, as was the whole building.

The New York Life Insurance Company assigned architect Alajos Hauszmann, to plan the company’s hall building in Budapest. Hauszmann, with Flóris Korb and Kálmán Giergl planned a four story eclectic palace, with a café on its ground floor. The building and the café opened on October 23, 1894. The statues and other ornaments on the front side of the building, as well as the ground floor café’s 16 imposing devilish fauns, each one beside the café’s sixteen windows, are the works of Károly Senyey.

The building was nationalized during the communist era. After the collapse of socialism, the palace was bought by Italian Boscolo Hotels in February 2001. The building was totally renovated, and reopened in May 5, 2006 as a 107 room luxury hotel, with the Café, also totally renovated, on its ground floor.

No trip to New York would be complete without a spot of retail therapy, and even if you haven’t the budget to cover it, just go and marvel at Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales or Macy’s, to name drop but a few. Fifth Avenue is New York City’s must-see shopping destination, filled with a mix of upscale boutiques, well-known chains, and attractions such as the Rockefeller Centre and St. Patrick’s Cathedral, if you can only do one shopping street in New York, make it this one.

Ireland is nicknamed the Emerald Isle because of the incredible lush greenery of its landscape. This small country of just 32,000 square miles provides the visitor with some of the most stunning scenery in the world. Ireland is dotted with beautiful lakes and mountains, vast meandering rivers and valleys, jaw-dropping cliffs and peninsulas, hundreds of isolated but accessible islands and dozens of the most attractive beaches. In short, this little island provides the most spectacular scenery you are ever likely to come across anywhere in the world.

All of this is compressed into an easily navigable island with infrastructure that has come on in leaps and bounds in recent years and makes it feasible to explore the entire country in a shorter time span than before. That said; you could spend years in Ireland and still not discover all of its beauty, such is the amount and the diversity of its wonderful attractions.

Ireland for tourism purposes is divided into eight separate regions. Each have notable and spectacular scenic vistas that compete with any that the planet of Earth can throw up. Each is worth a holiday in its own right and all will impose upon you the compelling desire to return. Each requires books instead of articles to properly convey their beauty but here we will content ourselves with a brief summary.

The most popular is the South West which comprises the vast and stunning counties of Kerry and Cork. Scenic highlights of this area are the famous Lakes of Killarney overlooked by the highest mountains in Ireland, the Ring of Kerry, beautiful West Cork and the Beara Peninsula, the Dingle Peninsula and hundreds of more that immerse you in a magnetic fashion as you travel. Cork City is the third largest city on the island of Ireland and is a good starting point for discovering the huge region.

Next in terms of visitor numbers come the West of Ireland, which is deemed the three counties of Galway, Mayo and Roscommon. The Connemara area is the most famous and incredibly beautiful part of this region straddling the boundaries of west Galway and Mayo. Buzzing Galway City is a superb location in which you base yourself for visiting this region. Drive, cycle or walk from Galway to Louisburgh for one of the great scenic treks in the world.  Return on the same route and see an equally stunning but different vista as Mother Nature puts on a different face.

The Shannon Region is made up of counties Clare, Limerick and part of County Tipperary and part of County Offaly. Don’t be confused by the unusual divisions in this case as the natural geographical boundaries are the reason for splitting it in such a manner. When you come to see it, you will understand. The Cliffs of Moher and the desolate Burren are the most noted beauty spots in this region along with the Slieve Bloom Mountains and all the beauty that emanates from the navigable River Shannon as it swells into lakes of stunning demeanour.  

The North West brings together the counties of Sligo, Leitrim, Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal and what contrasting and divine beauty there is in this region. Glenveigh National Park is a vast terrain of incredible beauty stretching across County Donegal and this huge county also presents you with best beaches in Ireland. This is also the Lakeland area of Ireland, spread across Cavan, Leitrim and Sligo providing numbing beauty and solitary peace away from any large centre of population.

The Six Counties of Northern Ireland is a naturally affiliated political and geographical region with the second largest city in Ireland, Belfast, as its centre. The Glens of Antrim together with a stunning coastline are highlights here. The largest lake in Ireland, Lough Neagh, is also a focal touching five of the six counties in the region. The Mountains of Mourne in County Down are almost chilling in their beauty as they sweep down to the Irish Sea.

The East Coast & Midlands region of Ireland is made up out of counties Kildare, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, North Offaly, Westmeath and Wicklow and be prepared for a few stunning surprises at the beauty and diversity of this somewhat underrated region. County Wicklow is certainly worthy of the title of captain of this region – not called the Garden of Ireland for nothing!

The South East Region of tourism in Ireland is comprised of County Carlow, County Kilkenny, South County Tipperary, County Waterford and County Wexford. Waterford is Ireland’s oldest city and home to the world famous Waterford Crystal Store. It is also the meeting point of the Three Sisters Rivers, the Suir, the Nore and the Barrow. To the north of this are several beautiful mountain ranges running east to west bisecting the region with a spine of unadulterated beauty.  

County Dublin is the eighth tourist region and whilst the main basis for this is of course Dublin City, capital of the Republic of Ireland, the county throws up some stunning beauty even within the urban area. Killiney and Dalkey to the south of the city are spectacular cliff top areas and similarly in the north near the airport, you have the magnificent Howth Head providing stunning views of Dublin Bay. 

If your ambition is to see in your lifetime the most scenic attraction the globe can offer, make sure you include Ireland as a port of call, for when the time comes to do your evaluation of all you have discovered in your worldly travels, my guess is that the Emerald Isle will be up at or near the top of your list.

Translations is exhibited in the lobby of the Hard Rock Hotel located at 230 N. Michigan. Members of the public are invited to view the piece from October 15th – 29th and vote on it. Translations was first presented at Three Walls as part of their “Chasing Two Rabbits” program in Winter 2010.

Contained within our unique animal identity is a strong desire to witness and experience symmetry, a desire informed by an overwhelming lack of its immediate presence in our waking lives. Symmetry and uniformity are present in the video collaboration between Burtonwood and Hammes, abstracted in terms of geometry and pure tones. Folding cubes and squares are accompanied by modulated, warbling sine waves and occasional bursts of distorted guttural voices, suggesting a human presence in a world of pure geometric and sonic abstraction.

Tom Burtonwood is an artist originally from the UK living and working in Oak Park, IL. He is interested in an array of subjects and issues relating to image making, ubiquitous technology and interactive objects. Currently he is working on a series of modular color studies relating to the video game Tetris. Recent exhibitions include The Center for Book and Paper Arts, Columbia College, Chicago; Three Walls, Chicago; Fountain, Brooklyn; Apex Art, New York. Burtonwood teaches at Columbia College and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Jacob C Hammes is a Chicago based interdisciplinary artist whose range of projects investigate the strained relationships and sites of interaction between humans and the natural world. Hammes is primarily interested in emphasizing the disconnection between the desire to emulate nature and our ability to understand it. Primarily using sculpture, digital media, and hypnosis, Hammes attempts to reveal the struggle to connect with our own animal identity.
Hammes has exhibited and performed extensively throughout the midwest and internationally. Hammes’ work and various projects have been reviewed in publications such as Art Papers, Proximity Magazine, and the Leonardo Music journal.

Booking early is one of the best ways to get a discount hotel reservation. And the earlier you book you hotel room the more discount you may receive. Hotels manage their reservations to ensure that the hotel books the maximum number of rooms at the maximum room rate possible. And the hotel will certainly make sure that the number of bookings exceeds the hotel’s break even point so that it is profitable. Hotels regularly release blocks of low cost rooms to the market to encourage people to make a reservation. These rooms will only available several months into the future. The hotel will have blocks of medium priced rooms and blocks of high priced rooms. As the demand for rooms increases the hotel “sells” the cheapest rooms first leaving the blocks of higher priced rooms. Also as the demand for rooms increases the hotel will increase their room rates to match the demand.

The number of tourists visiting New Zealand was at a low point and I booked some very good bargains and had the pick of hotels. Also there were no queues at any tourist attractions which makes your holiday so much more enjoyable.
Booking multiple nights at the same hotel often results in a discount for customers. I cannot count the number of times I have booked 3 or 4 nights and received a free night or some other benefit such as a free breakfast every day. Hotels offer this to encourage customers to stay longer as it saves the hotel money. A hotel would rather check-in one customer for five nights than check-in five customers one for each night. The hotel would save substantial check in and out costs, administration costs, cleaning costs advertising and agent booking fees.
Stay during the week and not on weekends can result in a significant discount for customers. This is very evident at entertainment hot-spots such as Las Vegas and Macau where gamblers fly in for the weekend. The hotel rate on Friday and Saturday nights is often double the Sunday to Thursday night rate. Many other international locations also have this weekend premium where travellers arrive for a weekend escape from the city. For example many Londoners travel to Paris for the weekend and many Greeks visit the Greek Islands on the weekends.
Stay a little further away from the centre of the action. When travelling to major cities and attractions, the nearer the hotel to the city or attraction the more you should expect to pay. If booking a hotel in a major city consider staying in the suburb just outside the central business district. If visiting a major tourist attraction, such as Disneyland, consider staying in the next suburb. The down-side, of course, is the extra travel cost but a taxi fare may be a lot cheaper than the extra cost of the hotel room.
Booking on the Internet is the best way for customers to compare and shop for a hotel in any location in the world. There is huge choice for customers meaning huge competition for the hotels which keeps prices low.
