A visit to Zagreb, which is the capital city of Croatia offers itself as the focal point of culture and science and is located between the Adriatic coast and Central Europe.

Zagreb also offers its tourists the Baroque atmosphere of the Upper Town. There are quaint open-air markets which give the browser a variety of shopping facilities. The country boasts many stunning green parks which you can visit including places of interest in the beautiful surroundings.

Trogir is situated in the centre of Dalmatia and considered to be one of the best places to stop on the Dalmatian coast which is on the eastern coastline of Adriatic sea. Trogir is also a good place to be if you wish to travel on to Split, where obviously you can see the Diocletians Palace. Split is the second largest city in Croatia and is located on the coast. Being a very old and stunningly beautiful town it is hardly surprising that many that visit choose it to take advantage of the water sports that are available here.

Located near Sibnik and along the Krka River you will find the Krka National Park. It has many beautiful waterfalls some of which have naturally fresh waters to swim around in. You will see a backdrop of rugged limestone mountains and glimpse the many islands archipelagos of the Adriatic Sea. Whatever your age it is a fantastic place for a family to spend some quality time together.

Another National Park in Croatia is the Brijuni islands which were proclaimed as a national park over twenty years ago. There are a total of islands which make up the park, the largest being the Veliki and Mali Brijuni.

The islands are a haven of unspoilt nature pockets which make a natural home to a safari park and a zoo.

There are also traces of early neolithic inhabitation have been discovered on the island but one of the most amazing archaeological sites here is the pre-historic settlement on Gradina hill.

Alternatively the beauty of the Plitvice lakes and National Park lies in its sixteen lakes which are inter-connected by a variety of waterfalls. These waterfalls are and set in deep woodland which is home to a diversity of wildlife, including rare bird species, bears, wolves, and deer.

Zagorje could be described as possibly the most idyllic county in Croatia, with its rolling hills, many villages and small towns that spread out across these hills and the rivers, creeks and lakes it makes a picturesque scene that is fit for the finest jigsaw puzzle.

In the past Krapina-Zagorje was a part of the Austrian Empire making the majority of 40 castles and mansions built in the country of this era. Some of the best known monuments are Veliki Tabor and the castles of Trakoscan and Miljana.

The other countries that border Jordan are Israel, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and the Syrian Arab Republic. The Red sea is to the south west of the country with The Dead Sea to the north west. The rolling hills in the north west of Amman are both cultivated and covered in forest. The Dead Sea is the lowest point on earth and is famous for salty water that holds you in a sitting position without letting you sink. It connects to the River Jordan with Israel’s end of Lake Tiberias. To the east of Jordan you will find mainly desert and the only small coastal area can be found on the Red Sea coast. A high plateau extends from the Syrian Arab Republic to Ras en Naqab in the south.

Amman is referred to as the white city because of its stone houses. The people of Amman are very warm and helpful and are proud to show off their modern and historical sites. There are some lovely old markets selling spices and handicrafts. The City also offers art galleries, museums and restaurants. You can find the Citadel here which is one of the earliest fortifications in Jordan and has been subject to numerous excavations. Remains from the Neolithic, Hellenestic period and late Roman to Arab Islamic Ages have been found here. Some of the structures include the Temple of Hercules, the Omayyad Palace and the Byzantine church. The Roman Theatre is at the foot of the Citadel and is still used for cultural events today.

A small coastal area known as Aqaba can be found on the Red Sea coast. You can take part in a whole host of water sports, jet skiing, para sailing etc. while enjoying the crystal clean waters and immaculate sandy beaches. Fortunately the waters boast well preserved coral reefs for which it well known and with its unique sea life, this Red Sea port city is an ideal place to sunbathe and relax. As well as the small but beautiful coastline you will find Aqaba’s historical land mark, the Mameluk Fort.

Petra is an ancient city and one of Jordan’s finest tourist attractions. Petra is now a UNESCO world heritage site which has inspired tourist around the world because of its huge architecture and the ingenious complex of dams and water channels. Petra is situated deep in the heart of a narrow gorge in the desert which is accessible through a half mile chasm. Perhaps because of this fantastic location it is why “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade”, was filmed here.

There are plenty of activities to participate in such as walks and climbs or you can experience the many of buildings, tombs, baths, temples, and rock drawings.

The King’s Highway meanders through forest highlands, deep ravines, the eastern desert and farm land plateaus. Archaeological sites line both sides of 208 mile highway. This is one of the world’s most ancient routes and was made mention to in the bible as the route Moses used to lead his people from Edom (southern Jordan).

If you wish to take this route in modern times then may I suggest hiring a car from Aqaba or Amman is the easiest thing to do.It may take 2 or 3 days but it is very much worth it and there are an abundance of facilities en-route to make your trip much easier and more enjoyable.

When you visit Laos you will notice immediately how important the culture, heritage and Buddhism are to its inhabitants. Laos is located between Vietnam and Thailand in the south east of Asia. It is a beautiful country with many rivers, rugged mountains, forests, plains and plateaus. Laos has been isolated from outside influences so the tourist gets a unique view of traditional Southeast Asian life. With its fertile lowlands of the Mekong River valley and the rugged Annamite highlands, Laos has got to be one of the highlights in Asia.

Laos has a tropical monsoon climate with the rainy season during the months of May to November and the roads can become washed out & the dry season starting from December to April. The weather is not too hot and there is less rainfall between November and February. The most popular time that tourists actually visit Laos are December to February but the good thing is there are not too many during these times.

For trekking or visiting the mountains, May and July are good, warm, dry months to experience them.

One of the most beautiful places in Laos is Luang Prabang and it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995. It is a magical ancient city that seems to have stood still in time surrounded by its mountains.

In the centre of the city of Laos is Mount Phousi. From this amazing standpoint you will witness stunning views of the hills and temples that surround it.

Khone Phapheng is considered to be the largest waterfall in Southeast Asia and with this in mind makes it an amazing place to experience. You will find this waterfall at the southern end of Si Phan Don home to the rare Irrawaddy dolphins.

The Pak Ou Caves are an absolutely spectacular sight to behold. One of the caves is filled with hundreds of statues of the Buddha which can be seen through a rugged hole in the cliff face.

If you want to see this amazing scene up close then it is possible to climb out onto the dock where the beautifully carved stones will lead you up to the entrance of the cave. There are statues of Buddha’s absolutely everywhere that you look, balancing on stone shelves, lining the stairs and in the nooks and crannies in the cave.

Pilgrims and kings have gone to the caves to worship for at least the last 500 years.

Pha That Luang is a Buddhist temple in Vientiane, Laos which was built in the 16th century. The temple was destroyed by a Thai invasion but has since been restored to its former glory. There are some people that believe that relics of the Buddha are housed in this temple. This temple has become a symbol of Lao nationalism due to the architecture including the Lao people’s culture and identity.

There is a wonderfully unique place known as the Plain Of Jars, located in the remote north east of Laos, where you will find hundreds of huge stone urns. These stone jars cover an area of several square miles and have become a great crowd puller. The urns are one of the most enigmatic ancient sights in Asia. To this day the many jars have kept their secret from the many historians who have tried to date them and discover what they actually signify.

In the province of Champasak you will find an amazing mountain Temple dating back to the 5th century which is known as Wat Phu, is an impressive ruin of Khmer style. There are a number of carved rocks above the temple site, each of them resembling different animals including a cobra, an elephant and a crocodile. Some believe that these rocks may have been used for human sacrifice in times gone by.
