Translations is a collaborative work by Tom Burtonwood and Jacob C. Hammes. It has been selected for the inaugural Art Loop Open an art competition in Chicago. Translations is exhibited in the lobby of the Hard Rock Hotel located at 230 N. Michigan. Members of the public are invited to view the piece from October 15th – 29th and vote on it. Translations was first presented at Three Walls as part of their “Chasing Two Rabbits” program in Winter 2010.

Contained within our unique animal identity is a strong desire to witness and experience symmetry, a desire informed by an overwhelming lack of its immediate presence in our waking lives. Symmetry and uniformity are present in the video collaboration between Burtonwood and Hammes, abstracted in terms of geometry and pure tones. Folding cubes and squares are accompanied by modulated, warbling sine waves and occasional bursts of distorted guttural voices, suggesting a human presence in a world of pure geometric and sonic abstraction.

Tom Burtonwood is an artist originally from the UK living and working in Oak Park, IL. He is interested in an array of subjects and issues relating to image making, ubiquitous technology and interactive objects. Currently he is working on a series of modular color studies relating to the video game Tetris. Recent exhibitions include The Center for Book and Paper Arts, Columbia College, Chicago; Three Walls, Chicago; Fountain, Brooklyn; Apex Art, New York. Burtonwood teaches at Columbia College and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Jacob C Hammes is a Chicago based interdisciplinary artist whose range of projects investigate the strained relationships and sites of interaction between humans and the natural world. Hammes is primarily interested in emphasizing the disconnection between the desire to emulate nature and our ability to understand it. Primarily using sculpture, digital media, and hypnosis, Hammes attempts to reveal the struggle to connect with our own animal identity.
Hammes has exhibited and performed extensively throughout the midwest and internationally. Hammes’ work and various projects have been reviewed in publications such as Art Papers, Proximity Magazine, and the Leonardo Music journal.

Bur Dubai is slightly different to Deira, it is a buzzing little area which is home to a large Indian migrant population (mostly from Karela). It is close to shopping malls such as Ibn Batuta Mall, and is about a 10 minute drive to Jumeirah. It has a fantastic market called ‘Mina Bazaar’ which specialises in clothing that you can get at good prices with many cheap hotels in Bur Dubai that you will be able to find. The include places like the Le Meridien Sandos and also Golden Sands apartments.

Hotels in Al Satwa should really be on the bottom of the list unless you are on a very tight budget. Or maybe, it’s just so awesome and naturally formed that it looks good under any kind of light. Heck, it would probably even look good in a 7-11 at 1 AM when all the pasty-lonely people stumble in for a Big Gulp and a Snickers. I can say this because I am often one of those people.

Having trouble charging your iPad? I’ve updated my HyperMac Review a bit with information on how I am using it to keep things charged on the road. My Macbook Pro just ain’t cuttin’ it!

We’ll talk about Cheap Travel Insurance in a moment, first let’s first take a look at buying cheap in general. Be honest, is buying cheap always the smart thing to do? Last year bought a new toaster. I shopped around for the best price and finally settled on the cheapest one I could find. Guess what, within a month I had to get another one. This time I got a much better one and am very happy with it. Sometimes it’s best to get a better quality because it is very probably less expensive in the long run.

The same goes for Travel Insurance. What are the real benefits of buying cheap travel insurance instead of the Best Travel Insurance for your needs? The only benefit I can think of is that you might save a couple dollars, literally a couple of dollars, when you buy cheap travel insurance.

Since there are probably hundreds of travel insurance plans out there and dozens of companies I won’t show you a bunch of cheap premiums. But I will look at the pros and cons of buying Cheap Travel Insurance. I have researched quite a few websites to find cheap travel insurance policies while at the same time looking at the benefits to see what you give up when purchasing the cheap plans. After all of my research I could only find one advantage of buying cheap travel insurance, You save a little money, nothing else! When buying cheap insurance you have to decide what type of benefits you are willing to do without. Or put another way you need to see into the future and decide what couldn’t possibly happen to you while traveling or on vacation. I don’t know about you but my crystal ball doesn’t tell me what the future holds so when I travel I get the Best Travel Insurance, insurance that meets the needs for the traveling I am doing. I would prefer to have a little more travel insurance than I might think I will need rather than not enough. Because it is the health and life of my family and myself that I am really worried about, not how I can save a few dollars.

To show you what I’m talking about let’s take what many people might consider a typical vacation for two people, a trip to Bermuda for a week. If you haven’t been there, consider it because it is a wonderful place to go to relax for a week. Anyway, back to the subject at hand. This vacation doesn’t involve anything dangerous like mountain climbing, just sun and beach and maybe a few nights clubbing and of course, eating some really good food. Since we will be out of the country let’s look a good Travel Medical Insurance policy, one thing though, good doesn’t necessarily mean expensive. Good means that it very probably meets your needs for your vacation or trip.

A good Travel Medical Insurance policy should cover any medical expenses you may have while on vacation, of course you should select a policy maximum that will cover just about anything which might happen. I suggest at least 0,000 (I prefer 0,000) as the policy maximum and a deductible. The reason is that the maximum should be plenty of coverage and the zero deductible means that you won’t have to pay anything out of your own funds should something bad happen. You are probably wondering what this kind of travel medical insurance policy might cost, well it’s not expensive, it would be .25 for IMG’s Patriot International Travel Medical Insurance policy with a 0,000 maximum and deductible. This is for a man 35 and a woman 32 for 7 days. There is a link below where you can see all of the benefits of this plan if you want. But I can tell you that you would be hard pressed to find a better travel medical insurance policy than this one. You can find a cheaper one but with less benefits and the savings might be a dollar or two, not really worth the effort. The only thing not covered is trip cancellation but that option is available for approximately 4% of the pre-paid cost of your trip.

I have to say that if you can get a first class Travel Medical Insurance policy for your vacation for 2 for only .25 for the week, why would you be looking for something cheaper. This is not expensive at all.

Well, even though I couldn’t find an benefit to buying Cheap Travel Insurance except for saving a dollar or two, hopefully you have learned that the Best Travel Insurance for your trip isn’t expensive at all. Of course the type of travel insurance I would recommend depends on your particular needs for the trip you are taking.

The Costa Brava is a coastal region of northeastern Catalonia, Spain, in the comarques of Alt Empordà, Baix Empordà and La Selva, in the province of Girona. Costa is the Catalan and Spanish word for ‘coast’, and Brava means ‘rugged’ or ‘wild’. The Costa Brava stretches from Blanes, 60km northeast of Barcelona, to the French border.

In the 1950s the Costa Brava was identified by Spain’s Franco government as being suitable for substantial development as a holiday destination, mainly for package holiday tourists from Northern Europe and especially the United Kingdom. The combination of a very good summer climate and excellent beaches was exploited by the construction of large numbers of hotels and apartments in such seaside resorts as Blanes, Tossa de Mar, Lloret de Mar and l’Estartit. Tourism rapidly took over from fishing as the principal business of the area.

Whilst part of the Costa Brava coastline leant itself to tourist developments on a very large scale other parts have retained a more traditional look and have become "hidden gems" for visitors who want a little more than sun, sand and sangria. Small towns like Cadaqués (close to the French border and close to the foothills of the Pyrenees) have attracted artists such as Salvador Dalí and Pablo Picasso and are now fashionable resorts. The coast between Roses and Tossa de Mar has many delightful small coastal towns such as Pals, Begur, Tamariu, Llafranc, Aigua Blava, Fornells , Calella de Palafrugell and Sant Feliu de Guixols.

In 1998 coastal towns of the Costa Brava signed a charter the Carta de Tossa which undertook to pursue environmental protection along with tourism. This recognised the value of the region’s wide range of natural habitats and micro-climates. The Islas Medes off the coast of L’Estartit is Spain’s first maritime nature reserve and it provides a home to a wide range of fish and acquatic flora. The nearby wildfowl reserve on marshlands at l’Emporda also saved land from the potential ravages of development.
