Skiing Holidays For Beginners

Going on holiday is more accessible to people in the UK than it perhaps was thirty years ago. Airline tickets were much more expensive and more of a hassle to organise, than they are today. Ski holidays were more associated with the rich and wealthy, however, as time has progressed, going on holiday has become very easy to book and can be available at affordable cheap prices.

However even though ski holidays are relatively cheap and easy to book there are still a lot to organise prior to going skiing, especially for people who are inexperienced in this type of vacation. If you are someone who is thinking about trying out skiing for the first time then there are few tips to adhere to before booking your tickets!

The first point is to have a look either on the internet, brochures or speaking to your local travel agents about the best places to go for a first time skier. Ski holidays are not for everyone, and although there are resorts that do offer lessons in skiing, it still may not be suitable for your ability. In the past I have visited resorts whereby I had been given lessons but was faced with too many experienced skiers and the skiing slope did not seem safe enough for a beginner.

Secondly, you need to look up the do’s and don’ts about skiing. Things like what equipment you will need, where to purchase them, how much you would need to prepare in advance (sometimes it is always good to take up dry slope skiing, to get familiar with the movements), what to look for when taking lessons, how much you should spend and again the best ski holiday resort for beginners. The first time I had been skiing, I used hand-me-down ski suits and goggles. What I should have done is bought my own set of skiing equipments and clothing, because by the time I had begun skiing I knew the material of the suit had degraded somewhat and my goggles were all scratched up.

Going skiing for the first time can be both exciting and scary because you will be taking part in something that if not practised the right way, can be dangerous yet thrilling and fun. Skiing requires a lot of balancing and good leg strength as this will work wonders in toning up your thighs and bum, but also leave you feeling sore if you do not like exercising. More to the point you may need to speak to people who have had skiing experience, so that way you get an idea of what to expect.

Finally, how long are you deciding to stay at your resort? Depending on whether it is a short break or a long two weeks, your choice in which resort to visit will be affected. Most people who take short holidays prefer to go to small quiet resorts, whereas long holidays attract busier and bigger resorts. The amount of people you take and who you take, also affect the resort choices. If you are intending to take family with children involved, then you will need to find out if skiing lessons are available for children as well as adults and whether the slopes are going to be safe enough for children to ski.

Once you have chosen your resort, accommodation and are all set to go, you will need to organise how to get from the airport to the resort. Seems simple to remember but it is surprising how much people do forget to do this. Often people have experienced far more on transportation than they perhaps would on the skiing itself! This is why researching any deals, flight packages and airline packages is always worth the time as you do not want to find yourself more out of pocket than needed and have more time having fun and relaxing whilst on holiday.

The Growth of Golfing Holidays

With people getting longer leisure time and the advent of cheap air fares there has been a massive increase in the number of people going on sporting holidays. One sport that is experiencing a major boom is the sport of golf.

In the past golf has been restricted to the amount of time that you play by the climate and weather of the area that you live in. This is now no longer the case due to people now having the time and also being able to afford to fly to an area where the weather is suitable to play golf.

When thinking about booking a golfing holiday it is critical that you weigh up all of the options before you book. The first thing to do is to set yourself a budget; this has to cover the cost of the flight, accommodation, food and golf fees.

The most popular golfing holiday destinations are now in Spain, Portugal and Florida. Many Europeans take short golfing breaks to Spain and Portugal as they are just a short plane trip away and there are many cheap no thrills flights to these destinations.

It is advisable to book your accommodation and tee times before going, as due to the increase in demand the days of simply turning up and securing accommodation have long gone.

Many courses now insist that players are of a certain standard and insist that proof of handicap is provided before they let you play.

Florida is now one of the most popular golf destinations in the world and has a tremendous selection of golf courses to choose from. You also have the added bonus of plenty of motels and hotels in the area enabling you to choose accommodation to suite whatever your budget is.

An up and coming golf venue is Dubai, but this is a lot more expensive for both accommodation and actually booking a tee time can be quite hard and very expensive.

It is quite ironic that while thousands of Europeans are flying over to Florida for the sun and beautifully manicured golf courses, there are many Americans flying to Scotland to play on their famous cold windswept courses.

The one thing that all of these people have in common is their love for golf. Golfers are now in the fortunate position that no matter what their budgets are, there seems to be accommodation and golf courses available for them to play in.

Florida is now experiencing the creation of exclusive golf communities with golf course designed and built by past players. Typically they have villas built around the course with great eating facilities and swimming pools. Many of these courses are private members courses but in some cases it is possible to rent the holiday villas from the owners and as a result get access to the course.

Many of these new luxury golf developments now have golf schools attached and are geared up for whole families. As a result we are now seeing whole families going on golfing vacations together. This has stimulated a demand for golf from a whole new generation of young golfers and the day of the golf course being male dominated are quickly disappearing.

It can now be seen that there are golfing vacations available for all age ranges at all price brackets and we can expect this sector of the travel industry to continue to grow and prosper.

You can get a few days abroad at a real cheap price. A tip that I always would give people is never operate through large companies that find the flight and the hotel as they charge you more and there is only one option for the flight and they charge you excessively for the flight and also you can only book certain hotels depending on which airport you leave for. Therefore I would advise for you to book a hotel then book the flight as this will save you a lot of money.

Last Minute Holidays

Finding a late deal can be financially beneficial but you have to be aware of the pitfalls and be up-to-date with tour operators and the media to discover the best deals around.
There are several websites dedicated to late deals, designed to take the headache away by doing the search for you. All holiday companies have sections on their websites listing last-minute deals that are either cancellations or that they have been unable to sell. However, the majority of these deals go almost as soon as they are allocated and unless you dedicate time and effort and book immediately, the perfect holiday may have gone by the time you take to discuss it! A lot of the holidays are also accommodation allocated on arrival so you don’t actually know where you are going until you get there.

A rule of thumb is to find a last minute holiday is to find out where you want to go and do your homework before so that if a deal comes up, then you are armed with all the facts. Bear in mind that travel companies need to fill all seats on a chartered airline and vacant rooms in a hotel they’ve already booked will leave them out of pocket.

Be ready to go literally at a moment’s notice. There are very few late deals even in the current climate for seasonal summer and Easter breaks abroad. Tour operators are as hit by the credit crunch as the consumer is and they will not pre-book hotels and airlines unless they are pretty confident that they can fill them. As with all good deals, the best are to be found out of season – do not assume that because you have left it to the last minute, something will come up.

Also, be aware that there are some fraudulent companies around. So only give credit and debit card details on a secure website and ensure that orders are confirmed by email. And DO ensure that the website has an ABTA or ATOL bond for your own personal protection should anything happen to the booking company.

Cutting the Cost of a Holiday Before You Leave

With prices of holidays on the rise, many people have started to downgrade from their usual hotels and apartments to cheap and nasty places just so they are able to get away for a break. However, this really isn’t necessary. There are a few simple things that you can do before you even leave the country to cut the cost of your trip by at least a few hundred pounds.

The first way to save money is to get any jabs that you may need from your local GP. Most of the time these jabs will be free but if you went to a travel clinic you could be paying up to £80 per person.

If you are driving yourself to the airport and intend on leaving your car there, try pre-booking for the airport parking. If you just turn up on the day you can expect to pay almost double than what you would if you booked in advance online or over the phone. If you’re not driving yourself to the airport, try asking a friend or relative to take you if you give them some money. It can work out a lot cheaper than a taxi.

If you’re a frequent traveller, it may be worth while taking out annual travel insurance rather than a separate policy each time you travel. This too can save you money in the long run.

Another easy way you can save is to take your own food and drink for the aeroplane. Buying something to eat or drink while in the air will cost you a lot more than it would if you got it from a shop before hand. A bottle of water would cost you £2.50 on an aeroplane but only 85p from a shop.

If you intent on visiting any theme parks while on holiday try booking in advance to save some money. Buying your tickets when you are actually at the park could cost you up to £50 extra.

If you want to save some money on your <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link']);” href=”http://www.travelsupermarket.com/c/holidays/”>holidays </a>, try searching online for some <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link']);” href=”http://www.travelsupermarket.com/c/holidays/”>cheap holidays </a>, you should be able to find some <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link']);” href=”http://www.travelsupermarket.com/c/holidays/late-deals/136/”>cheap late deals </a>.

Greatest Ski Holidays

Winter is when skiers start to think about booking their skiing holiday. In Europe there are hundreds of destinations to choose from. France, Switzerland and Austria all have very popular ski resorts, but if you are looking for a bargain then try Eastern Europe. Borovets in Bulgaria and the high Tatra mountains in Slovakia are attracting increasing numbers of skiers. A survey by pricerunner.co.uk and travelex.co.uk revealed that not only are the Eastern European resorts much cheaper than the popular destinations in the Alps, but they are also rated quite highly. Bansko in Bulgaria, Jasna in Slovakia, Zelezna Ruda in the Czech Republic and Kranjska Gora in Slovenia all got a mention.

If you are unsure which resort to pick, companies such as Forbes create a list of the top ski resorts in the world. The list will contain many Western and European resorts primarily because of the quality of the snow and the village atmosphere. New England has snow, but it won’t feature much on the list. This is because its snow tends to be icy, not powdery like the snow in Europe which is better for skiing. However, skiing holidays are about more than the quality of the snow. Resorts such as Aspen are hugely popular and the slopes are crowded, meaning that you probably spend more time waiting for the chair lift than on the slopes. Another consideration is the après-ski scene. For some people this is the best part of the holiday. There should be plenty of opportunities for dining, drinking and swapping stories in front of a log fire. It is also a good idea to choose somewhere that has activities other than skiing, just in case your legs need a rest from the slopes. Your accommodation is also important and should be comfortable with easy access to the slopes.

Ski holidays can be expensive, but there are ways to save money. When you book your holiday you should consider a package deal as these often work out cheaper. A single lift ticket can be very expensive.  Try booking at the last minute and stay in catered accommodation to save on eating out. Book your ski pass and ski hire online and always pay in local currency.

Ski resorts that regularly make it into the top 10 lists are:

Aspen: Located in the beautiful state of Colorado, Aspen always features on the list of top ski resorts due to its excellent ski runs that are suitable for skiers of all abilities. It is also the place where you have the chance to ski with the rich and famous although the downside of this is that it is not cheap!

Cortina: Another top choice is this stylish Italian ski resort which hosted the Olympic Games in 1956. Cortina was one of the world’s first ski resorts. The Cortina Ski World is located in the Alps and is one of the most scenic places in the world, with 120 kilometres of ski trails and 52 lifts.

Mont-Tremblant:  Canada’s best known ski resort first opened in 1939 and has recently been given a $1 billion facelift. It is a compact ski resort lying in the pretty Laurentian Mountains. The village has a distinctive French feel to it and it has a number of cafes and bistros in cosy log cabins, as well as boutiques and restaurants. The skiing is suitable for mixed groups and there is a good ski school. Another plus for this resort is that it is just one hour from Montreal for those who would like to do some sight-seeing along with their skiing.

Stowe: Located in Vermont, this is another American resort famed for its picturesque setting. It has the largest vertical drop in the area and is famous for its double-black diamond ‘Four Front’ trails, suitable for experienced skiers. However, it also offers trails suitable for intermediate skiers and beginners. Away from the ski slopes it has over 90 shops and 60 restaurants.

Chamonix Mont-Blanc: Situated in the French Alps, it played host to the first Winter Olympic Games in 1924. It lies at the foot of Mont-Blanc, the highest peak in the Alps. It is renowned for its vertical drop of 9,209 feet and for having one of the world’s longest runs, the Vallee Blance, at 13.7 miles.

Banff/Lake Louise: This ski resort in Alberta, Canada is located in the Banff National Park. It is one of the most scenic mountain resorts in North America and has very reliable snow conditions. Covering 4,200 acres it offers tree-lined runs, smooth slopes and plunging bowls, providing ideal skiing for everyone from the novice to the expert.

Vail: Another ski resort in Colorado, Vail claims to be America’s favourite resort. With 5,300 acres of skiable terrain it has the largest ski area in the USA. Vail also has a lot to offer besides skiing with art galleries, ballooning, dog sledding, museums, ice skating, hockey and snowmobiling.

Zermatt:  Switzerland’s top resort is a picturesque village and a car-free area at the foot of the Matterhorn. It has the second biggest lift-served vertical drop in the world. Zermatt has large snowfalls and the longest skiing season in the Alps.

Kitzbuhel: The most famous resort in the Austrian Tyrol. Skiing began here in 1892 and the 700-year old village still retains its traditional charm. Kitzbuhel is home to the Hahnenkahm the most dangerous and famous of the downhill ski races and is Austria’s winter entertainment capital. It has excellent skiing and snowboarding, but due to its low altitude snow may be lacking on the lower slopes.

Whistler/Blackcomb: This resort in British Columbia provides the best skiing in North America with the biggest vertical drop. It has 8,171 acres of skiable terrain and has been voted North America’s Favourite Ski Resort by OntheSnow.com visitors. The village has cafes, spas, galleries, international stores and over 100 restaurants that feature cuisines from around the world including French, Chinese, Italian, Mexican and more.

How to Find the Best Deals For Cheap Holidays

Before you start looking for a cheap deal in the UK or in other countries, there are some important things you need to remember first. You also have to be more flexible for you to avail the best deals there is.

If you decide to book your trip in the traditional summer holidays which is the peak season in July and August, you will not get a good cheap deal. That is the golden rule in finding cheap deals that you should remember. Instead, you have better chances of grabbing a good bargain if you look for dates two months before and after those peak seasons wherein the weather is still good in most of the popular resorts. Usually, empty seats of the less popular flights are sold cheaper by some of the large tour operators if you are to book at the last minute. But you should be really fast because many people would also like to avail of the bargains and the offers ran out too fast. Though cancellations are possible and are often offered with a discount because the tour operators want to ensure a fully-booked plane and hotel.

To get cheap holidays check out the flights and the hotel/accommodation separately. Or at least check out the price of the hotel independently. It may be cheaper than through a tour operator. A good rule of thumb is to shop around for travel insurance – some companies pump up the prices drastically and this impacts upon the final cost.

Going abroad is not your only choice if you want a cheap deal. There are a number of cheap deals at UK resorts being offered by some national newspapers for summer holidays. These offers though are usually out of season. But if you try to consider taking a look at them, you may find some places that has many facilities like indoor swimming pool, indoor sports activities, and the likes. You will still be able to enjoy the holidays.

In most instances, cheap deals mean poor quality so be prepared for the hidden extras. Always inquire for more details. Some tour operators will have to give some information on the hotel like a building being constructed or lack of some amenities. If you can take that, then ask for more things that they can offer. Because if you don’t ask, they won’t tell you these hidden extras.

Also remember that you always have an alternative in looking for cheap accommodation – the internet. Then, as mentioned, low cost flight and travel are being offered by some newspapers. To get the most of your cheap holiday, here’s an idea: if you can catch a low cost trip to France, you may also consider a trip to Brittany.

When you plan your holiday you should spend at least 2 weeks to your retreat. This is the best way to find a good on your cheap package holiday. You can expect to have a great time and you will definitely get the most for your money if you offer a lot of time for you vacation.

Family Touring Holidays in France

France has numerous fascinating areas to explore if you have a touring caravan or motorhome and there are absolutely thousands of campsites that welcome touring holidaymakers with their own caravan, motorhome or tent. And because the climate is slightly better than in some other countries such as the UK, you will find people go touring as early as April right through to October, which is when most camp and touring sites are open in France.

Although if you are thinking or touring in the summer holidays you may have to pre-book to get a pitch at some of the more popular caravan sites, especially in places like Brittany, which is one of the most popular camping and touring holiday areas in France, but there are many to choose from and you can often just pull up and arrange an overnight stay, or if you want to see the sights in a specific area, then you could always book a whole weeks holiday, or two, on a particular caravan site.

Most touring sites will offer pitches with an electric hook-up and some also include water, some others will even have pitches that cater for sewage disposal for the black tanks that you get within a motorhome and if not, they have on-site facilities at set points for your waste water and emptying out your cassette toilet or porta-loo. In fact, last time we were in France, we noticed that a lot of the larger service stations also have points that you can empty out your waste tanks, which is great for when you are travelling through France.

But getting back to the touring sites; the amount of facilities available on lots of caravan and camping sites in France (not including the basics), means that you may find you just wish to stay put and enjoy what is on offer, such as swimming, tennis, fishing, the bar and restaurant, clubs with entertainment, children’s playgrounds and much, much more, which are normally free to use bar certain activities that you may have to pay a fee for, such as a fishing permit, playing pool, hiring cycles or using the gym.

And overall, these types of camping sites are of excellent quality and make an ideal family holiday where the children are very well catered for but these can range in price quite dramatically, for example, if you want to be situated near the Cote D’Azur and the French Riviera, the cost for a pitch can be anything up to four times that of a touring site in Normandy! Also, they do vary in cost according to the time of year and the amount of different facilities on offer plus some charge extra if you just turn up rather than pre-booking, so it is always a good idea to check out a few sites in different areas before you go on your holiday and we always ensure we have the different sites and their details on hand whilst we are touring.

However, if you would rather have peace and tranquillity whilst on holiday in your caravan or motor home, then there are also numerous sites which offer the more mature family, and you can find some beautiful settings that range from lakeside views to being situated in a forest where you can watch the wildlife roaming, or why not meet up with some other like-minded people whilst staying in the grounds of a French Chateau. The choice is immense and on some of the sites you could even get to experience activities such as horse riding, artery and clay pigeon shooting.

Mind you, if you are towing a large caravan or have a large motorhome like a Winnebago, then it is also a very wise idea to check the terrain of your desired destination, as some of the campsites may not be accessible. One particular place we went had such a narrow track running up to the site that it would have been impossible to get a 36 plus foot motorhome round the bend and into the gate at the entrance and as for reversing, we wouldn’t have liked to try that with a caravan!

Yet even if you do not own your own caravan or motor home, although it will add to the cost of your holiday, you can still enjoy a touring holiday in France with freedom by hiring one for a week or two, which is also a good idea to see if you will end up enjoying the whole experience, before investing your hard earned money on the purchase of a caravan or motorhome.

How Can We Get Cheap Holidays With Cheap Flight?

Is it really possible to have a great time on your vacation and still save lots of money? Of course it is possible and there are many ways you can enjoy a cheap holiday. You know that the era of cheap airlines is certainly over, at least for now. If you know where to looking for cheap holidays is often easier than you think. Don’t you believe it?

Flights are part of what makes your holidays so expensive. The best way for you to find cheap flights to request information from various agencies that deal with holidays and also you can find information on internet, there are many travel sites advertise their expertise in finding the lowest airfare.

How can you make sure you are finding cheap flights?

Remember that many airlines will offer you a discount on ticket prices if you book online instead of the phone
To get the cheapest prices, you may have to fly late at night/early in the morning and on certain days of the week
Many package operators will offer you big discounts if you book early and some offer you additional discounts if you book online
There are dozens more companies out there on the Internet that offer last-minute deals. However, companies would much rather fill a seat on a chartered airline and a room in a hotel they’ve already booked than leave them empty

It is important to find a reliable travel agent when you are on the hunt for cheap holidays. Kayak, for example, search low-cost and traditional airlines for the journey you want to make.

Bargain Holidays

Bear in mind that tour operators and major airlines operate all year round and have to maintain their profit margins. You can find yourself a good holiday deal either for last minute breaks or for next year’s holiday if you are prepared to put some work into searching.

Booking a holiday is no longer a matter of just picking a destination and letting the tour operator sort out all the details. Holiday deals are becoming more sophisticated and you can grab a good deal by paying closer attention to what is on offer. Late deals can be found on the internet or teletext if you are prepared to travel at very short notice. Just be aware of the hidden costs, such as transfers from the airport, airport taxes, flight meals, single supplements. The prices quoted are rarely the final amount.

If you are looking to book in advance, then now is a good time to bag a bargain with the tour operators and airlines needing to entice customers in order to maintain their profit margins.

If you want to go away next year, look for deals that include free child places. Look for low deposit holidays – if anything happens between now and your holiday, then losing a small deposit is preferable. Use comparison sites – most of these are up-to-date and some of the best will point out the hidden costs.

If you are looking for a package holiday, compare the price of self catering against all-inclusive. All inclusive holiday deals can offer extremely good value for money, especially if you are travelling as a group. If you have children, then this may also be a cost effective option – there’s nothing worse than paying for a meal that isn’t eaten!

Sign up for holiday newsletters and check them regularly. Also, widen your horizons – if you want a beach holiday, try looking away from the perennial favourites to less well known destinations.

Finally, holiday deals are only good if the holiday itself turns out to be good. You won’t appreciate saving a few hundred pounds if the resort isn’t to your liking. So don’t go with the cheapest option unless you have researched the destination thoroughly. A cheaper hotel full of partying young people won’t go down too well with a family trying to get a baby to sleep!

Sardinia Holidays: You Can Afford It!

Sardinia holidays have been popular in Europe for just about forever. There is so much that this island has to offer. You can find accommodations to suit anyone’s likes and dislikes, as well as activities, such as shopping, diving, and sightseeing. While Sardinia has also become popular with Europe’s elite and celebrities from across the globe, there are deals to be found.

Here are some great tips for getting a good deal on Sardinia holidays:

1. Plan ahead: You can really save some money on your Sardinia holidays by booking in advance. Some of the airlines that fly into one of Sardinia’s three airports will allow you to make reservations up to eleven months in advance. Many of the online travel websites can secure fabulous deals on hotels, holiday houses, and villas if you can provide several months notice. While Sardinia holidays are not cheap by any means, deals can be found and it’s worth every penny.

2. Travel in the Off Season: Sardinia holidays are much less expensive during the offseason. The weather during the summer is hot, dry, and windy, but the winters are exceptionally mild. Cheaper Holidays Despite Sterling?S Weakness!

The fact that the value of the Pound has dropped against the Euro by approximately 25% over the last 6 months, has increased the cost for thousands of holiday makers in the UK who have to pay more for their holidays, as holiday companies pass on the increased cost they buy their accommodation.

However this is not the always the case, Select Resorts, a specialist holiday company, is providing holiday accommodation at prices below those of 2008!

“We specialize in providing accommodation in privately owned villas and apartments” says Michael Reilly, the marketing manager of Select Resorts “the majority of our owners are British and we pay them in sterling, we have also been able to negotiate very competitive rates with our owners for 2009 and most of our villas are in effect cheaper then last year!”

Select Resorts has been established for over 25 years, is Atol bonded and specializes in providing accommodation in upmarket resorts such as Quinta do Lago in the Algarve and La Manga Resort, Spain. “Despite the recession” continues Michael Reilly “our bookings are ahead of last year. The majority of our bookings are repeats or recommendations. We regularly e-mail our data base and our clients are delighted when we can tell them that they can book the same fabulous Quinta do Lago Villa or La Manga Villa they booked last year for less!”

Both Quinta do Lago in the Algarve and La Manga Resort in Spain, are well known destinations with a great selection of smart villas and apartments, as well as a variety of fantastic facilities to please all members of the family. “These are well tried and tested products, where clients know they can find what they want,” says Michael “if the kids have a good time and are not bored, parents have a good holiday also. If the parents want to be on their own for a day and do their own thing, there are facilities for children where they can be safely looked after by professional people” Not all of Select Resorts properties are in resorts however, “If clients are looking to get away from it all and want something individual, they can choose a property from our Algarve Villa Rentals selection” say Michael.

“It’s a known fact that even during hard times, the last thing people give up is their holidays, they do need something positive and exciting to look forward to. The fact that they can have it for less makes it even more appealing” concludes Michael.
