Why To Rent Holiday Cottages On Your Family Holiday

Holiday cottages are very popular with holiday makers going on a family holiday. A holiday cottage is a single storey house available for rent and is a fast growing sector of the holiday market.

Holiday cottages are residential buildings which are available for tourists to stay in on their vacations. There are many different types of holiday cottages around the world with some in the countryside and others right by the sea.

When thinking about a holiday cottage you should consider how many people are going to stay in the cottage. You need to check how many bedrooms the holiday cottage has and also how many beds are in each bedroom.

Some holiday cottages also have sofa beds in the living room and some also have ‘put me up’ beds. It is important to check that if the holiday cottage states how many beds that it has that you know how many of these are in the bedrooms.

When looking for a cottage for a family holiday, you must decide what sort of cottage that you are looking for. If you are a lover of mod cons and luxury you need to ensure that the cottage has all of the appliances that you need. It is possible to stay in some superb holiday cottages that are furnished to an extremely high standard. It is also to check how many bathrooms each cottage has.

Some of the more modern holiday cottages have more than one bathroom, whereas some of the older more traditional cottages may only have one bathroom. Beware, some of the very old cottages may have separate bathroom facilities to the cottage. This may at first seem fun, but the novelty of going to the toilet in the middle of the night soon wears off!

The location of your holiday cottage is also extremely important. If you are looking for a beach holiday you need to ensure that your holiday cottage is close to the sea. There is some fabulous holiday cottage accommodation near to or on the coast with stunning views.

Other holiday makers on a family holiday may want to stay in a country cottage. Again there is a great choice of cottages in the country to choose from and many families come back to the same holiday cottage in the country year after year on their family vacations.

There are lots of holiday cottages in Scotland by the sea aimed at family holidays. There is also a big market for holiday cottages in Scotland amongst the many golfers who like to go to Scotland on a golfing holiday.

For the lovers of walking and climbing there are some great country cottages in Scotland offering peace and tranquillity. These holiday cottages in Scotland differ greatly in style to the type of holiday cottages found elsewhere. Typically a holiday cottage in Scotland is built in a red stone and has its own unique style.

Cornwall also has a good supply of holiday cottages and is very popular with holiday makers going on a family holiday. Many holiday cottages in Cornwall are near to the sea and many sit on the edge of some of Cornwall’s beautiful beaches.

A holiday cottage in Cornwall by the sea is a very popular family holiday with the holiday makers using the cottage as a base to explore the local area. They can swim in the sea, surf and even fish during the day and then return to their holiday cottage at night to relax. Many holiday cottages in Devon have fabulous views out over the sea.

Devon has perhaps the best examples of a typical English Country Cottage. Many people associate an English Country Cottage in Devon with cream teas and warm lazy summer afternoons in the countryside.

Traveling at the Right Time of Year Costs Less

The best time to travel is in the holidays, right? Not if you want to make big savings on your traveling costs it’s not. If you travel in off peak (or low season) periods, or even in the shoulder season, you’ll find traveling costs a lot less.

Where are you traveling? Do you know the peak travel times for this destination? Summer and spring, no matter where you are, are generally considered the peak seasons to travel, unless you are a winter sports enthusiast. In that case, ski resorts will be having their peak season in winter. And what hemisphere are you thinking of visiting? The seasons differ depending on whether you are north or south. For example, the North America summer months are June, July, August but in Australia the summer months are December, January and February. You will need to research your destination to find out the low season times to visit.

First of all, what type of savings can you expect to make if you travel in the off-peak season?

1. Air fares are much cheaper. There are less people wanting to fly so air carriers drop their prices to attract customers. Take advantage of these great savings. If you are traveling in the high season, see if you can book a flight mid-week. These flights are generally cheaper too.

2. Accommodation is cheaper and more readily available. In high season it can be difficult to find a place to stay in popular tourist destinations and when you do find somewhere it can be up to twice as much as when traveling in the off peak.

3. Eating in restaurants can be cheaper too. Owners will be trying to attract patrons so see what sort of deals you can find when eating out.

There are some other positives to traveling in the off peak season, other than saving money. There are fewer tourists for one, so visiting any cultural sight will be much more enjoyable. You can get more of an idea of what a destination is really like without the thousands of extra people. Experiencing the true culture is a real bonus. Did you know that opera season is in full swing in Europe in winter? Or that winter in Australia is often the best time to visit places in the north when the humidity and heat are bearable. Or how about visiting the best holiday markets in Germany in December? Do some research to find out what your chosen destination can offer in off peak, ones that you won’t experience in high season travel times.

So what are the negatives of traveling in the off peak? Well there are a few, but if you plan well you can overcome most drawbacks. Off peak usually means traveling in colder weather and that also means less daylight hours. Pack wisely and remember to dress in layers for the cold weather. Some tourist places close earlier or do not open at all in the off peak, so check up before you go so you are not disappointed. You will also find that in some areas the public transport system does not run as often as in peak tourist season. Find out what options you have to get to places and don’t be caught out missing the last bus home in the middle of winter, in the middle of nowhere! Some hotels and museums close down for the winter to re-furbish and get ready for the next high season influx of tourists. You can gamble and bargain your way to a great accommodation deal once you get to your destination, but all your bartering skills will be of no use if the hotels are all closed. It’s best to check what’s open before you go.

If traveling in the off-peak doesn’t sound attractive to you, then you might like to try the shoulder season and still get some travel price reductions. The shoulder season is considered the period leading up to and away from the high season. Usually in this time you’ll get decent weather, less crowds and lower travel costs – not the great bargains you’ll get in off peak, but lower costs nonetheless.

4 Reasons Why Traveling During a Recession is a Good Idea

Ever thought of traveling in a recessionary economy? I bet not. During recession, everybody wants to earn money or save it, so travels are often out of the question because that will be spending money rather than saving or generating it. It is counterproductive, to say the least.

And yet, it is that very reason that makes travelling attractive during recession: everybody else wants to earn they will give their best to a tourist. You will receive better service, discounted fares, reduced accommodation costs, and less competition for attention along the way.

Discounted fares

The cost of oil has dropped from $150 to about $70 a barrel. This means airplane flight costs would have gone down by a significant percentage, which should translate to lower airfares. Since in a recession few people will travel due to lack of means –money is tight- the airlines will offer promos and more discounts in their effort to lure the small numbers of tourists their way. What works for airlines will be repeated by other transportation companies including cruise ships and tour buses. This will be very advantageous to the recession tourist.

Better service

The smaller number of tourists will urge service providers and employees of hotels, casinos, and similar establishments to perform better service. In a recession, many people will be out of jobs so there will be fierce competition for existing ones as well as vacancies. Therefore any employee who performs lower than the desirable levels would be in greater danger of being fired. Who would want to be out of a job when there are no alternative employments?

Likewise, the reduced number of clients will enable the staff, for example, to more easily familiarize with their clients, and the staff’s smaller workload will give them longer time to attend to their clients’ needs. Fewer visitors, reduced work: special treatment, better service.

Lower room rates

In the same manner as that of the airlines, accommodation providers that depend on tourism will compete with each other more fiercely for the smaller number of potential clients. Common methods of attracting visitors are reducing room rates, offering lower prices for groups and package tours. In whatever way it is done, the visitor will enjoy the benefits of less expense than normal.

Less competition for attention

Let us put it this way. If a provider’s -tourist guide, hotel staff, resort attendant, restaurant waiter- attention is 100 units and you are in a group of 50, you get only two units of the attention as your share. If your group is only five, you get 20 units, which is of course markedly better. And this is applicable in all aspects of the travel in terms of service, from the flight stewardess to the tuk-tuk driver, the bartender to the masseuse, the bellhop to the hotel manager. This will be the resulting boon for a recession traveler, to be treated with extra-special care.

Why travel during a recession? One reason: you can expect to be treated royally but less expensively. Therefore more enjoyable, right?

Hotel And Holiday Booking: 6 Ways To Save Money On Your Travel

Have you been planning a vacation or a quick getaway? If you are, it is obviously important that your holiday is perfect. For this, the right planning is the first step. If it’s a known destination, you could do with planning yourself. However, if it’s an unknown venture, you must take the help of a professional, who has the right resources and expertise to help you. Herein we provide some tips on how to plan the perfect getaway without paying enormous bills.

1. Hiring the services of an expert
As mentioned above, unless you’re an expert on the destination, it would be a great idea to hire the services of a travel agent or travel company. With the increase in the number of OTA’s, you would actually be spoilt for choice. With their domain knowledge and expertise you might actually be able to save some money. Sign up for their newsletters, mailers and travel alerts so you are the first one to know on any special offers that come up. A number of travel companies also provide special deals and discounts on using a certain credit card – so check out on those before you book.

2. Planning ahead
This one is kind of tricky. How early is enough? I’d say that you should start planning at least 2 months in advance. This is especially important if you are planning to travel in the peak season or your kid’s summer holidays. Start doing your research online and check out on rates available. The earlier you book, the better your chances of bagging a cheap deal!

3. Travelling during off-season
Unless imperative, skip the actual holiday season and travel when it is low. Alternately, travel to places that are not likely to be thronged with tourists during your holiday. The lower the season is, the higher your bargaining chances.

4. Selecting an all-inclusive tour package
Unless you are going camping and backpacking, get an all-inclusive tour for yourself. This has two advantages: if you book with all inclusions, you’re likely to get a cheaper deal, since separately, various elements like transfers and meals tend to cost more. Also, a pre-planned trip takes the load off your head when it comes to securing inclusions. I recommend packages that at least include transfers, some sightseeing and breakfast.

5. Save money on hotels
You don’t always have to stay at a five-star hotel – there are a huge number of 3 star hotels too that provide great service at really affordable prices. An alternate to this would be staying at a service apartment that comes with good rooms, a kitchenette and even the services of a butler.

6. Research online
This is best done by logging on to travel websites that often feature deals and discounts. If you’re booking a hotel, you could also research on the hotels own website – they often have lower deals than most OTA’s. Not just the price, I recommend checking up on the user ratings and reviews posted by actual customers as well as photos of hotels and rooms.

Budget travel must never be a horrid experience. When done through the right channels, they actually turn out to be really memorable experiences. With some simple tips and tricks, you can actually save enough to spend on really meaningful things – such as shopping or a nice meal for the two of you!
